Continuous effort on Environmental Friendly Products

The Company seeks to use raw and secondary materials with environmentally friendly characteristics, whenever available technologies allow doing so, setting the base for manufacturing environmentally friendly products.

Customers and product users. Applies in products: compounds, power cables and data transmission cables (products used mainly by construction companies, electricians and industries).

Continuous, up to date.

The Company’s common environmental practice includes:

  • Usage of anti-rodent materials (incorporated for protection against rodents) containing feedstock peppers (instead of pesticide).
  • Replacement of DOP plasticisers (which contain potentially hazardous substances) with new generation plasticisers.
  • Minimizing the usage of lead containing stabilizers and replacement with environmentally friendlier stabilizers.
  • Recycling PVC, since compounds are produced for other applications.
  • Changes to the production process in order to reduce the use of materials such as paints for cable drums and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) used in the production of enamelled wires.

Implemented exclusively by the Company.

The active participation of our employees is the most important factor for the company’s sustainable actions to be successful.

At the Company’s three (3) production plants: Oinofyta, Thiva, Livadeia.

HELLENIC CABLES through the use of environmentally friendly materials succeeds to reduce the negative impact that its products may have on the environment.

Usage of anti-rodent materials (incorporated for protection against rodents) containing feedstock peppers (instead of pesticide) thus not affecting/hurting the animals that may consume them. Minimizing the usage of lead containing stabilizers and replacement with environmentally friendlier stabilizers. In particular, lead containing stabilizers has been reduced from 215 ton in 2005 to 0.9 ton in 2013, with a respective increase of lead-free stabilizers from 23 ton in 2005 to 101 ton 2013. Changes to the production process in order to reduce the use of materials such as paints for cable drums and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) used in the production of enamelled wires. In particular, installation of specialized equipment in order to reduce the use of solvents, which started in 2009, resulted in avoiding the use of 10 ton solvent in 2013.

The use of these solvents  is currently limited to minimum.

The Company is consistent to its ethical business behavior and at the same time helps to raise awareness to customers about its products and their impact on the environment and the broader ecosystem. It is also achieved cost reductions and lower use of natural resources.
