Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (REMT) is one of the regions of Greece. It is the secondary local authority covering the northeastern border of the country, namely the eastern part of Macedonia and whole Thrace.

The ultimate aim of the action is to improve population health through accessibility to services, while shorter aims are the valid information and sensitization of the local population in health and social care issues. Aims are directly related to the basic targets of Department of Public Health and Social Welfare, as referred to the laws (PD144, articles 26,27,28, FEK 237 / TB / 27-12-2010).

The results of the assessment process of local needs in health and social care in recent years show us that there are great difficulties for people to access social services, due to lack of information and reliable information. For this reason, we carry out a series of actions intended to cover information gaps in social and health issues.
The method we chose to contribute to information and awareness is a periodical thematic edition of Guidebooks, promoting them via Internet, open events etc.
The Guidebooks have a simple form, are illustrated and use a language and a structure understandable to all people. They have the form of a book, with a clear structure and easily manageable contents. The preparation of the Guidebooks is based on scientific material of modern literature and the existing legislation. Local scientific services participated in the final version.
Their innovative element is the electronic form, which allows for renewal of existing data whenever is necessary. This modernization allows Internet users for instant access to accurate information.
They are all posted on the official website of Region Unit of Evros, where everyone can browse them, update and print what they interested in: http://www.peevrou.eu/index.php/menu-ipiresies/menu-ygeias/menu-odigoi-ygeias. Furthermore there are in paper form in Department of Public Health and Social Welfare RU of Evros and distributed for free to operators and citizens.
Specifically, the Guidebooks are:
This Guide is a scientific tool for access to services for professionals involved in the wider field of social-humanities and ordinary citizens. It includes all Social Services of Regional Unit of Evros, originally mapped to a specific methodology. The collected data were registered in a special registration form and presented in detail and alphabetically by municipality in area hundred pages.
Intended for couples wishing to adopt a child, while being attached to those people who interested to be informed and aware on adoption in general.
Its scientific editing based on the methods and applications of science in Social Work at the preventive level, the existing legislation, in contemporary literature, to online resources and personal testimonies of people who have the experience of adoption. It consists of forty pages and four chapters with useful information on the process of adoption, the concept and types of, psychological issues and experiences of people who have experienced adoption.
There nine Guidebooks of twelve-page each, with images. They have the following topics: schizophrenia, sleep disorders, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, grief, post-traumatic disorder, shame and social phobia, mental health services in the community, stress and panic attacks. They addressed to the general population and provide the basic information for the above mental health problems.
It consists of 40 illustrated pages, addressed to the general population. Its purpose is to cover the gap in information and promote public health.
The Guidebooks are useful tools to inform, facilitate and provide access to services. They provide foster efficient service and improve the quality of life of citizens by mapping the Social Services, authoritative, organized, detailed and updated without discrimination. It is very important that the citizens can have confidence in the state apparatus, to facilitate their trade and to ultimately satisfy their demands.
At the same time, they create the conditions for the operation of a well coordinated network of services and link our social services and other Social Services of Greece, based on the comprehensive support of the citizen.

This action brought a dynamic view and provides many other benefits to both the Regional Unit of Evros and The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, directly related to the Strategic Plan of the Regional Health and Social Care.
Successful response to the needs of the society related to maintaining social cohesion, social protection and safeguarding the health of the population makes The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace a key factor in improving the quality of life of its citizens.
Furthermore, networking and interconnection of the Regional Unit of Evros and therefore the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace with other services and the enrichment of scientific knowledge of staff in the field of social policy and health policy in local government promotes the work of the Region. The action brings it to a pioneering service that contributes to a better quality of service and hence, improve the community’s quality of life.
