2012 - 2014
Following a several months collaboration with the Byzantine Authority of the Ministry of Culture, we carried out the first rescue operation in the Monastery Eikonistrias, conserving the icons of the iconostasis and in the monastery of Evangelistria, conserving part of the mural iconography. Together with the Byzantine Authority of the Ministry of Culture, we co-hosted an event entitled: "Monasteries of Skiathos, History and Art." It is worth noting that it was the first time such a scientific event, with both the Byzantine Authority of the Ministry of Culture and the local community in attendance, had been organised and held in Skiathos. The event aimed to inform and increase awareness in order to protect our important historical monuments. After a funding campaign, we have gathered the amount required for the preparation of maintenance studies of the Monastery Eikonistrias.
The restoration of the Monastery ‘Eikonistria’ constitutes a primary and very important step for the preservation of Cultural Heritage of Skiathos.
