Duration

Program began in 2013 (new departments are added every year) and its full implementation is expected to be completed in 2018.

Description

Corinth Pipeworks’ Health and Safety Management System is the base on which the protection of our employees’ and associates’ health and safety is built.

"We are facing health and safety issues with a single and common way in our business practices, covering a wide range of activities from purchases up to the stage of our products transportation."

Providing a safe and healthy working environment is a non-negotiable value for Corinth Pipeworks. The enduring implementation of management systems that comply with international standards (standard OHSAS 18001: 2007) and their certification by accredited bodies, reflects the lasting commitment of the Company to go beyond compliance in regards to the existing legal framework and regulations. , Recognizing the multiple benefits in terms of work organization, culture development and mentality Corinth Pipeworks started in 2013 to gradually apply the 5s methodology in its production facilities.. More specifically, the 5s methodology: (1) is an internationally recognized methodology with catalytic effects, and (2) activates employees to work as a group during its implementation.

In particular, employees working in groups: (a) improve personal skills and behaviors, b) expose themselves to new knowledge and experiences, c) increase their self-esteem while respect their partners, d) adopt and / or improve work habits, e) increase administration respect to them, f) reduce friction, because they are working in an environment with rules and distinct roles and g) acquire a sense of responsibility for their workplace.

Specifically, starting the program 'Improving tidiness, cleanliness and organization' launched pilot changes in the Company's facilities, improving workplace organization and safety. According to program schedule, changes are extended progressively in more areas of Corinth Pipeworks production facilities.

The first stage of 5s methodology included the implementation of its five steps in 18 production departments. In 2015 the program extended further in 15 production departments, aiming to include the remaining departments in the first steps of the program until the end of 2016. The ultimate goal for all departments is to sustain the improvements that have been made during the implementation of 5s methodology, also assessed by an external expert. The audit findings identify further improvements and variations in the work place.

Alongside short-term goals, long-term goals in regards to program implementation are also set. The program’s positive intervention offers the right conditions for mobilising substantial changes in terms of culture. In this context the Company took a step forward and has begun introductory training programs for «lean 6 sigma» methodology as a tool of continuous improvement processes.

The actions and the commitment of both Corinth Pipeworks Top Management and employees, intensify the Company's efforts to manage and reduce risks and eliminate the causes of accidents in a coherent way, promoting the values of Sustainable Development.
