Objective Action

The goal of this action is to create a framework for monitoring the health of all company's employees, focusing on areas that might be affected by their work in a chemical industry and on prevention and control of diseases that could increase the loss of work days.
Furthermore, the goal of the action is to create a database of medical historical data for all employees related to their health, which could be available for both research purposes and emergency situations. Moreover, this action contributes to the annual evaluation of the health of all employees in order for the authorities to be able to confirm their proper employment at workplace.

 

 

Target Audience

The action is targeted to: 

  • All companies which employ many employees and could implement it.
  • Training Bodies as well as Associations of HSE at work (including Doctors focused on HSE at work) which could use the proposed system as a model for sustainable management of Health and Safety at work.

 

 

Duration

The action started on a test basis five years ago and after its benefits were recognized by both employees and the Company, it was then permanently established having recently completed a full cycle. In the near future it is planned by the company to extend the action to further sectors and to intensify it.


Description

Annually, all the staff members participate in the Company’s Health Services Department Program, for basic medical tests (i.e. blood and urine analysis, respiratory system test, cardiac test etc.). These results are collected and organized on individual health records. The results of the medical tests are electronically recorded. Also, they are statistically processed and evaluated, while they are available for both family doctors (on demand) and for the Hospital, in case of emergency situations (e.g. in case of a work incident or accident). 

Moreover the occupational doctor performs a statistical study based on the personal health data files of the staff and this way is able to identify the additional needs for preventive medical support for employees.

The Health Service Department is a consultant for the company for all staff and supports the assessment and evaluation of each employee for the job, based on individual medical records.

Impact on Society

This action maximized updating the medical records of each employee, a fact that leads to avoiding additional tests for everyone when facing health issues. Furthermore, it reduces the required reaction time and it provides treatment in case of illness and / or accident. The action can be applied to all companies regardless of the size and type of the business object and can provide all the relevant benefits. With the implementation of this action the hours of absence of employees have been reduced by 80%.



Initiative Location

The place of the action is the office of the company’s Health Service Department and it is combined with the results of the medical tests coming from doctors’ offices or medical laboratories in the region where the company is located.

Working with Organization

The action is aimed at the cooperation with the health department of the Labor Inspectorate Body, in order to provide the ability for direct information on the complete medical historical data for employees. The information provided in this way, contributes significantly to prevention of occupational diseases and of loss of work hours. There is, also, cooperation with local or other hospital in case of the transport of an employee, for immediate sending the integrated health record of the employee.

The participation of every employee requires the understanding of the program's value and it is essential to the action, in order for every employee to do all necessary medical tests periodically so as to inform the competent Health Service Department of the company.

Employees are participating in a specialized preventive health monitoring program, which allows identifying all the possible health problems at an early stage, avoiding thus the deterioration of their health. Also in this way, the company is able to know on time the potential health problems of employees and take them into account in the planning of its actions.
