Project started in 2014 and has maintained a steady progression for each new WIND store across Greece.


Description

In September 2014, WIND has presented consumers with new digital stores, the largest investment in the Greek retail market. In WIND new stores, functional design and technology meet high style. The new digital WIND stores were designed with a view to optimal utilization of the latest available technology, in order to enhance customer experience while at the same time improving efficiency and saving resources. Using digital touch screens to inform consumers directly and personalized for the full range of company products and services and take if they want deals by email. The new digital WIND stores have almost completely eliminated the use of paper and printed material (flyers / posters) for promotional and advertising purposes, while fully exploiting the benefits of digital signature and electronic scanning and archiving documents.

At the same time, the new WIND stores introduced LED technology to the needs of indoor and outdoor lighting, replacing old energy-intensive lamps and headlights. In the same logic WIND stores replaced all air conditioners with new energy class A, achieving energy savings there too, that reach up to 39%-52% compared to the previous state.

Finally, in 2016, WIND supported the pilot projects of the municipalities of Syros and Tinos in collaboration with the Environment and Energy Ministry ran during summer awareness campaigns on marine pollution from plastics. As part of WIND stores in Syros and Tinos program abolished the disposal of plastic bags.

Impact on Society

Using the digital touch screens significantly restricted the printing and distribution of 75% promotional brochures and services from 2014 to 2015, saving approximately 149 560 kilos of paper per year, or 59 825 A4 office paper packages (total cost if bought at company over 129.000 euro annually) or the equivalent of approximately 2,543 trees saved each year by the non-use of paper. Moreover, by using a digital signature, the documents initially managed using printed paper, ie, printing in store, hand-signing by the customer, sending for scanning and electronic archiving, now signed electronically, managed solely as electronic records and filed as such in the first place, saving additionally approximately 12,700 kilos of paper per year and 200,000 euro cost reduction in document scanning services, thus saving additional 216 trees annually. (Note. The customer continues to receive his own printed copy, but a hard copy is no longer maintained by WIND, only online.). Moreover, replacing the lights and headlamps with LED technology equals to a potential annual saving of 316,000kWh, and 351,000 kilos of CO2e in all establishments to date that have been renovated, or the equivalent of the electricity consumption of 76 households for an entire year. The replacement of air conditioners also yielded energy savings of 39% -52%, compared to the previous state.

Environmental footprint reduction and strengthening of Brand through the coupling of the high-tech concepts and environmental awareness. 

Specifically:

  • The total amount (units) and promotional brochures that has been released in 2014 was about 5.95 million versus 2.365 million in 2015. The reduction observed was 60.24% in piece level.
  • The total amount (kg) allocated in 2014 was 199 469 kg, compared with 49 906 kg in 2015. The weight calculated in accordance with the used paper density per square. The reduction observed was 74.98% by weight level.
  • This paper if purchased from WIND and A4 were white, it would have cost the company in real market prices over EUR 129,000 annually.
  • Simplification of the operation of retail processes while improving service times and the overall customer experience and cost savings by removing unnecessary administrative steps due to paper form use.
  • Any / household customer contract numbers from an average of 11-19 pages, with an average of 18 pages, while the corresponding contracts corporate customers numbering an average of 24 pages per contract. The previous procedure provided for printing multiple copies, of which one was the WIND's file.
  • Other services that previously required the printing of a document / application and compliance with relevant copy concerned the cancellation actions and product upgrades.
  • For both the above categories, the change in non-printing time is saved in store for employees and customers, but also time and cost from the need to scan these documents for archival purposes.
  • The elimination of keeping paper copy using a digital signature and the parallel increased use use of other e-services provided has saved a total of over 5,000,000 pages and the corresponding scanning costs, which totaled (estimated) to 202.683 euro.
