Corinth Pipeworks is a world leading manufacturer of steel pipe and hollow sections to the energy and construction industries. We pursue in producing high quality products and services while creating added value for all our stakeholders.

Corinth Pipeworks operates in a responsible manner and has included respect and protection of the environment in its daily business practice. Our aim is to act responsibly and actively implement our environmental commitments emphasizing on reducing the use of natural resources and waste management.

Our specific objective is to minimize the environmental impact by reducing the total volume of waste as well as that going to landfill.

Description

Corinth Pipeworks has established, implemented and continually improves its Environmental Management System certified in accordance with international standard ISO 14001, since 2000. Our Environmental Policy along with its Basic Principles indicates Company’s commitment for protecting the environment and the health and safety of its people. Corinth Pipeworks’ Management and its employees are responsible for the implementation of environmental policy.

Our practices: 

In the context of continuing improving its Environmental Management System, Corinth Pipeworks undertakes actions to reduce the environmental impacts of its operations creating, at the same time, best practices to raise awareness of its employees.During 2013 the Company has implemented in its facilities the followings:

  • Monitoring and management of environmental impacts.
  • Improving waste storage within the plant.
  • Improving the use of raw materials.
  • Improving the sorting of recycled materials within the plant.
  • Improving infrastructure to address emergencies.
  • Monitoring environmental performance.
  • Employees’ training program.

Investing in the environment: 

During 2015, Corinth Pipeworks invested EUR 448,239. The majority of the costs are associated with waste management where the height of expenditure amounted to 352.358 euros.

Utilization of raw and secondary materials

In regards to natural resources preservation Corinth Pipeworks has developed and follows a set of indicators to monitor the level of use of raw and secondary materials in its production process. Specifically, the Company seeks the greatest possible use of steel, the main raw material, and the optimal use of other materials in order to contribute the maximum possible to reduce the use of natural resources.

Corinth Pipeworks implements practices to reduce the amount of water used during the production process. It has a system for recycling the water used to cool its units, which enables it to recycle a major part of the total quantity of water used. At the same time, checks, maintains, and improves hydraulic facilities to avoid leaks and consequently minimize the Copmany’s water footprint.

Corinth Pipeworks does not use chemicals that damage the ozone layer and monitors the quantities of cooling fluids used to top up its system every year. Also, the Company fully complies with the law and regulations to effectively protect the environment and its

• stores chemicals in dry, protected areas, in line with manufacturer specifications,

• trains users to avoid and remedy spills,

• runs emergency drills,

• reduces the quantity of chemicals stored to the minimum needed,

• minimises the time waste is stored at the plant by working in close partnership with licensed waste management companies.

Impact on Society

Cost saving and preservation of natural resources.

The 96% of waste is managed via recovery and recycling, while the rest ends up in landfills. There are no complaints related to environmental management.

Working with Organization

Corinth Pipeworks demonstrates its interest in environmental protection in practical ways by responsibly managing the final volume of waste generated by its production processes and ensures that it also constantly increases the quantity it recycles every year. With that in mind, it only cooperates with companies suitably licensed to transport, process and dispose of waste, which it inspects each month to ensure they are operating lawfully and hold the necessary permits and licenses. In 2015, increased production and the nature of work the Company engages led to a rise in certain categories of waste.
