This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 769086. Project’s budget 3.808.645,63 € for 20 partners. The large-scale introduction and application of cargo bikes in a city has shown to be a game changer in cities. The results of the Cycle Logistics projects and other studies show that cargo bikes have a surprisingly high potential to replace motorised trips in urban ar eas: • 23-25% of the commercial deliveries in cities • 50% of the commercial service and maintenance trips • 77% of private logistics trips (shopping, leisure, child transport) A sharp increase in cargo bike use can be an effective solution to reduce emissions, noise, contribute to a more active and healthy lifestyle, increase public space and thus generally elevate the quality of life and the liveability of cities. They can also play a very important role in transforming public spaces – currently only used for cars - into public spaces used for multiple purposes, walking, cycling, shopping, sitting and child’s play. Stationary cargo bikes can quickly be transformed into mobile street furniture and then even fulfil a place maker function: as seating arrangements for passers-by to linger; as extension to a street cafe, as a pop-up children’s playground, as a mobile kitchen or ice cream stall. The combination of all these potentials inherent to cargo bikes can turn them into real city changers: thus this proposal is called CityChangerCargoBike (CCCB). The cities participating in the partnership will implement further measures: commercial and private transport and urban equipment. In addition, cities based on their specific characteristics have the ability to focus on specific applications that will be good practices for other cities in their country. Experienced partners will provide advice and training to others and support further professional development of the use of cargo bikes. |
