ECOTROPHELIA: Food innovation competition

The ECOTROPHELIA GREECE competition for creating eco-innovative food products is organized since 2011. It aims both to support students engaged in food science and to become a hotbed of innovative ideas for the Food Industry promoting the entrepreneurship and competitiveness.

 

The competition is conducted in two stages: In the first stage national organisations from European Union Member states, and / or National organisations from European countries not in the European Union, and / or Non-European national organisations as associated countries are organizing the competition at National level. In the second stage, the teams which have won the national competitions participate in the European competition.

The ECOTROPHELIA Competition is annual.

SEVT, aiming to promote innovation and to bringe the research / academic community with the Food Industry, organizes the ECOTROPHELIA  Competition for Innovative Food Products, in Greece, since 2011. The Competition, which started in France, takes place in 17 countries and is held in 2 stages: In the first stage national organisations from European Union Member states, and / or National organisations from European countries not in the European Union, and / or Non-European national organisations as associated countries are organizing the competition at National level. In the second stage, the teams which have won the national competitions participate in the European competition.

For the organization of the Competition in Greece, the Rules of the Competition are prepared based on the Rules of ECOTROPHELIA Europe. For the selection of the winners at national level, 2 Committees are appointed: the Technical and the National Committee. The Technical Committee is formed to evaluate the proposals and decide which of them meet the criteria provided by the Rules, in order to pass to the final phase and consists of experts from Food Industry. Then, the teams, which pass to the final phase, present their product and put it to taste in the National Committee, which consists of personalities from the academic, scientific and business world. The National Committee selects the 3 best products, which are awarded cash prizes and 2 products are awarded honorary prizes (Best Presentation & Best Marketing Plan). The team that wins the 1st place in the National Competition, participates in the ECOTROPHELIA Europe, where it competes with groups of students from 16 countries.

ECOTROPHELIA is the longest-running food innovation competition in Greece and has contributed significantly to the development and utilization of innovative ideas of the new generation as well as to the linking of Food Industry with the research / academic community. At the same time, it promotes the dynamics and the potential of the Greek Food Industry in Europe, having the new generation as ambassadors!

Representatives of the Academic / Research and Business Community and experts from the Food Industry participate voluntarily in the two Committees of the Competition and contribute significantly to its successful development.

The ECOTROPHELIA Competition concerns students of higher educational institutions and research institutes throughout Greece. The final phase of the National Competition is held in Athens, while the final phase of the European Competition is held in October of each year within the framework of International Food & Beverage Exhibitions (ANUGA, SIAL, etc).
