Psarokokalo International Short Film Festival

Psarokokalo international short film festival (www.psarokokalo.org) supports through its actions the Sustainable Development Goals. With the main aim to enhance the level of awareness on sustainable development issues in society and to put these issues on the agenda of filmmakers. 
We believe that films and educational activities are a great stimulus for introducing discussion and driving into action on issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals.
It offers filmmakers around the world the opportunity to participate in films (animated, fiction, or documentaries) lasting up to 40 minutes that present a narrative that works on the world's greatest threats and makes the Global Goals a reality.

International reach with emphasis on European programming at the national level with emphasis on remote areas (islands) and the region.

The main object of the action of the company is the organization of the annual International Short Film Festival PSAROKOKALO (www.psarokokalo.org), an independent initiative that aims to promote the work of young filmmakers from all over the world and to highlight and promote a short film. (from December 2006 until today). The Festival is a part of the program that aims at research in the promotion and development of the art of cinema. The program of the festival includes an international competition section special screenings audiovisual events lectures, discussions, exhibitions, etc.

The 13th edition of the festival premiered in Athens in two physical spaces from May 27 to June 2, 2021, and had as a guide-prompt the question: What goals do you see?

Participants and the general public could watch the selected films and vote for their favorite ones as well as connect them to the SDGs via a QR code per movie program where they were directed to the specially designed website. Psarokokalo's official program included one hundred and two films from forty-two countries.   

The films that received the highest number of votes won the Audience Awards and two new Categories of Psarokokalo Awards were awarded by the SDGs: "Best Film for Human Rights with emphasis on Diversity" "Honorable Mention " IRINI".

The pluralistic program of the festival with short films from all over the world that participated or won distinctions in the biggest world festivals (Cannes, Sundance, Rotterdam, Clermont- Ferrand Toronto ).

explore global goals such as clean energy, migration, gender discrimination, access to education and environmental sustainability, and so on through a variety of storytelling techniques, including comedy, fiction, animation, and documentaries.

While the separate projection section entitled: "Architecture and environment" have been established with an eye on the environment - climate change - energy and its alternative forms - water - biodiversity - recycling.

The geographical position of Greece makes the Psarokokalo festival a natural and ideal meeting point for filmmakers from mediterranean countries, Europe and beyond such as China, Japan, Canada, America, Israel. The festival's audience is cinephiles and lovers of quality cinema, sound and image professionals, young Greek and foreign artists and creators, actors and art critics, students and students, children and teenagers. People looking for high-level spectacles that convey trends and currents of thought from all over the world. They are receptive to new stimuli and support innovation. They embrace knowledge and exchange views and experiences. They are interested in purposes that transcend dividing lines and stereotypes.

The actions of the organization are addressed to people of all ages. Although the largest single participation is between the ages of 25 -34, about 20% are under 19 and 16% are over the age of 55. Viewers tend to be well educated, about 64% are college graduates. About 21% have reached a master's degree and about 8% hold a Ph.D. degree. An increase of 27% was also shown to the public from other countries (immigrants, employees of embassies, consulates, etc. in Greece, Erasmus students, tourists, citizens of other countries living in Greece) A significant growth of 33% was noted during the period by active teachers, parents, children, and adolescents. The findings summarized in this report are based on researches conducted on the organization's actions in all venues and locations outside Athens. The survey was conducted with a questionnaire from the volunteers/ staff of the organization.
