Municipality of Palaio Faliro

Creation of a single sports center and open fields in the surrounding area, together with the existing sports facilities of the swimming pool, in the coastal area of Paleo Faliros.

The project was inaugurated on October 14, 2017 by the President of the Republic Mr. Pr. Pavlopoulos, after its foundation in November 2013.

The project includes:

- Multi-purpose indoor gymnasium with 800 fixed seats, with the possibility of expansion to 1,200, with changing rooms, sanitary facilities, offices, canteen, press gallery, doctor's office, projection and meeting area, public WC, etc.
- A 40X64 soccer field for Academy matches and training, with metal bleachers and autonomous lighting
- Four tennis courts, with metal bleachers and autonomous lighting
- Two changing room buildings for the open tennis and football courts, with sanitary facilities and a canteen
- Central Entrance Gate, with guard and special parking area of 150 spaces
- Free space with high and low green planting
- Access corridors of the sports facilities, with cubic blocks of 4,500 sq.m.
- Metal fencing of the entire sports center
- Electric lighting
- 1,500,000 btu/hour refrigeration machines

The project has been entirely financed by the Region of Attica and was built under the supervision of the Technical Service of the Municipality of Palaio Faliro.

The work of the project was monitored by engineers, surveyors and scientists who work in the municipality and staff the Technical Service. The Environment/Green Service and the Cleaning Service were also involved.

This large project in the Municipality of Palaio Faliro is a real jewel for all the southern suburbs and not only for the city of Palaio Faliro.

There, the members of the sports clubs who until now did not have a roof and a decent space for their athletes can exercise regularly.

The transformation of the 22 hectares of the surrounding area from a garbage dump into a green oasis is impressive: 345 large trees, cypresses, pine cones and locust trees, 2,420 tall bushes, 13,000 sq.m. rolled turf, 30 autonomous photovoltaic lights, pergolas were installed, a complete irrigation system, a 77-meter theater and 2,200 sq.m. walkways.

The Indoor Gym meets all the conditions for saving energy and with autonomous, if possible, coverage of its energy needs.

It also has all the necessary installation locations for alternative electricity, heating and cooling systems.

The combination of the bioclimatic coverage with the bioclimatic treatment of the building systems will fulfill the above objective and will promote the efficiency of the building's functions, not only in the sports but also in the social events of the municipality.

The orientation of the building is along its main axis East-West. The stands are located on the small West side, so that the playing field is along its long axis in North-South and thus ensuring the correct lighting of the hall without disturbing reflections.

The combination of all the above features creates the ideal conditions for saving energy, limiting the working hours of municipal employees, maximum energy efficiency and safe use of the facilities for athletes and visitors to the venues.
