MUNICIPALITY OF GREVENA

RES Integrated Interventions for Developing the Local Community of Grevena

The Public sector in Greece is responsible for the inefficient consumption of large amount of thermal and electric energy especially in buildings with high energy needs such as gyms, swimming pools, hospitals etc. A sustainable approach to face this problem is to increase penetration of RES in public buildings and infrastructures. The objective of this project was the selection of public buildings, places and installations where integrated RES actions were implemented in order to achieve: • energy upgrade and savings • demonstration of relevant actions to active groups and • reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the framework of “20-20-20” obligations.

Public and private organizations, including not-for-profit organizations and NGOs, responsible for the organization and delivery of education and training at local, regional and national levels, Students, Athletes

The Project was completea at April 2017 and consequently there are no measurable results yet.

Targets of the Action:
1. Estimated consumption of renewable electricity energy  690.3 MWh/year

2. Estimated consumption of renewable electricity energy  346.5 MWh/year

3. Estimated consumption of renewable thermal energy  343.8 MWh/year

4. Estimated reduction or avoidance of CO2 emission 1,111.92 tn/year

The project is expected to achieve the increase of renewable energy consumption and to strengthen awareness and education in the sustainable use of renewable energy, familiarizing inhabitants with sustainable practices.

The beneficiaries (Region of Western Macedonia, Municipality of Grevena and General Hospital of Grevena) have applied several RES technical solutions into their buildings and premises. They achieved to increase the renewable energy consumption and to strengthen awareness in the sustainable use of energy.
