RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

In recent years, KONVA implements the program RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT in all its facilities. The aim is to minimise the environmental burden, to consolidate best practices and make sure they are communicated well to all employees.

General audience

all year around

The company recycles aluminum, tinplate, plastics and paper. Special recycling bins for recycling batteries, paper, and plastic are available in all offices.

Furthermore, the company adopted a styrofoam recycling program and has been considered an example of good practice in circular economy by the Circular Economy Group (Region of Central Macedonia). Styrofoam waste is an important issue for the fish product industry because of its large volume and the high cost of waste management. By recycling this waste product the company ensures:

the quality of finished products by using appropriate materials for safe packaging and transport
environmental protection and implementation of circular economy

Last but not least, the company handles wastewater and by-products using biological treatment processes, which are then converted into energy by third parties.

KONVA recycles per year about:

5 tonnes of aluminium

10 tonnes of tinplate

10 tonnes of plastic

6,000 tonnes of paper

45 tonnes of styrofoam

Waste management and waste-to-energy conversion by third parties:

2,000 tonnes of wastewater per year

650 tonnes of animal by-products per year

The benefits of these actions for the company are:

1. reduced material handling cost
2. reducing the company's environmental footprint
