Safer Together: Building a Stronger Health & Safety Culture

Health and Safety (H&S) is at the heart of everything we do at Imerys Greece. It is part of who we are, how we behave and of the choices we make every day. But we want to go further!

We are committed to building a stronger H&S culture for all our business operations – for today, tomorrow and many more years – through what we call “Safer Together”. Through Safer Together, we actively encourage our people to be positive towards H&S, to take responsibility for their choices, to look after each other and to always put H&S above everything else.

Safer Together is a project with which we want:

  • to reach a level where, creating a strong H&S culture at work is everyone’s commitment, and
  • to contribute to the objective of creating a workplace without injuries, and more specifically without fatal accidents and life-changing accidents.

All employees and contractors are invited to participate in events and workshops where through presentations / video projections and interactive actions they are informed about safety issues that concern both their work and personal life. It is also an opportunity to strengthen the relations between the employees as issues of common interest are presented with direct and indirect relation to the object of work.

Since 2021

With Safer Together we have defined a new, holistic approach to health and safety that is built around 4 pillars.

 1st pillar: Being Positive About Safety

  • We participate in the "Safety Champions" initiative
  • Safety Videos: we share good practices and experiences of colleagues
  • Positive observations identified during safety inspections and workplace visits
  • Celebration of important Health & Safety milestones, such as achieving a record of accident-free days, or local award recognition, or in health / safety certifications

2nd pillar: Placing Health & Safety Above All

In the context of the 2nd pillar:

  • We identify and communicate good practices
  • We perform Group Take 5 before each task consisting of the following steps.
  1. Think about work
  2. Look for potential hazards
  3. Assess the risk
  4. Take precautionary measures
  5. Perform the task safely
  • We assess the risk when performing activities outside of routine
  • We carry out work risk assessments with the participation of employees and contractors 
  • We perform Safety task training, tool box

3rd pillar: Taking Responsibility

In the context of the 3rd pillar:

  • We set the example by conducting VFL (Visible Felt Leadership) inspections and identifying unsafe situations / behaviors (Shop floor / Bottom- Up Reporting)
  • We promote continuous improvement through risk mitigation
  • We manage action plans to improve Health and Safety
  • We monitor the performance of sites through indicators: GPI Global Performance Indicator

4th pillar: Looking Out For Each Other

In the context of the 4th pillar:

  • Peer to peer interactions                                                                                                                                                                                
  • We strive to ensure an environment of well-being, welfare, physical and mental health,
  • We recognize employee input as a percentage of dedication and commitment and implement the "Security Champions" campaign

The initiative was implemented also in the context of the Safety Connect Day which is an event that is organized every year, on the same specific day for all employees of Imerys worldwide, with the aim of raising awareness on safety issues and gives us the opportunity to focus collectively on how we can to achieve our goal – a safer IMERYS for everyone. Safer, Together! All employees are invited to participate in events and workshops where through presentations / video projections and interactive actions they are informed about safety issues that concern both their work and personal life.

The H&S activities refer to the sites of Imerys Greece in Greece (Kifissia and Milos).

Reduction of:

  • near miss accidents
  •  lost day accidents (LTA)
  • accidents causing permanent damage
  • fatal accidents
  • Ensuring the H&S of our employees.
  • Promoting Imerys as a Safe Employer.
  • With Safer Together we will take another important step forward: we will build a stronger health & safety culture!
