SKYROS PROJECT

Skyros Project

The aim of the Skyros Project is to introduce a new way of practical environmental education and health education where the trained participants also act as citizen educators, promoting responsible environmental behavior. The port of Linaria Skyros becomes a tool of environmental awareness and health promotion where through the program the theory is put into practice in real conditions.

To all citizens locally and globally.

The Skyros Project has been active since 2015 in the port of Linaria every summer.

The Skyros Project as a service ecosystem collaborates with various stakeholders to co-create environmental communication services with the ultimate goal of promoting environmental awareness. These services include Student Internship at the Port, Tourism and Marine Observatories, Environmental Camp for Children, Art Workshop (Trash Art) and the Summer Academy of Environmental Educators. As a whole, the above services train the future environmental ambassadors of the goals of sustainable development.

The Skyros Project is the "golden" collaboration between the Special Academic Unit of Environmental Education, Education and Communication of the Laboratory of Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Department of Public and Community Health of the School of Public Health of the University of West Attica with the Department of Environment Skyros (LT Skyros, NPDD), the Administration and Operation of the Port of Skyros.

The Skyros Project is headed by Professor of Environmental Communication and Education of the Department of Public and Community Health of the School of Public Health of the University of West Attica (Former Professor of the Department of Environment of the University of the Aegean) Konstantina Skanavos and Mr. President Mr.

At the same time, the Skyros Project collaborates with a number of other bodies such as University Institutions of Greece and Abroad such as External Scientific Associates, Public & Private Associates, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

Volunteers participate in the Skyros Project every summer, actively supporting the program's activities.

The place of the actions is Linaria Port at Skyros island.

The results of the action have a multifaceted impact on the public which is reflected in a series of measurements based on scientific research carried out under the program (such as through tourist and marine observatories).

The results are reflected in the rapid increase in port traffic that has literally skyrocketed in recent years due to all the environmental practices that are successfully implemented in the port of Linaria. The impact can have an impact on everyone involved in the activities, from the young children involved in the environmental camp, to the local community enjoying the benefits of an excellent environmental port where through actions you promote non-environmental awareness. At the same time, the future environmental ambassadors are actively trained where their impact on society as a whole can offer multiplier benefits depending on the actions that they themselves will participate in turn. Finally, the results of the Skyros Project action have been awarded internationally and globally.

The Skyros Project has received 16 accolades: World Award (for winning the Climate Change Awareness video production competition - Marrakesh, Morocco in 2016 at the Climate Change Summit), 2 European Awards (for winning the most popular video and the category of best video production in the World Environment Day / zero waste competition), 9 Gold National Awards (4 in tourism - 4 in environment - 1 in education), 2 Silver awards, 3 honors.
