MUNICIPALITY OF VRILISSIA

Sorting and recycling of excavation, construction and demolition waste

The purpose of the program is, in principle, to reduce the volume of waste that ends up in landfills and, by extension, to save space in the landfill. and financial resources of the Municipality.

Secondly, reducing the need for new materials and therefore reducing the extraction and long-distance transportation of raw materials, saving energy and natural resources.

Finally, the described project creates employment opportunities and economic activities in the recycling sector.

After all, reducing, reusing and recycling waste helps to close the cycle of material use throughout the economy by providing materials derived from waste as inputs for the production of new materials.

It is addressed to the citizens and residents of the Municipality of Vrilissi

FROM December 2017 until now October 2018.

The Program includes the separate collection of mixed - non-hazardous - waste from structural constructions and demolitions with E.K.A. 17 09 04 (e.g. concrete, bricks, ceramics, wood, disused furniture, wooden frames, glass, metals, plastics, excavated soil, etc.)

The Municipality of Vrilissi operates an already developed Excavation, Construction and Demolition Waste Management and Recycling System (AEKK) and is one of the pioneer municipalities of Attica that efficiently implements a Standard Program for the Recycling of AECK, in collaboration with the company SANKE E.P.E.

The program includes the collection of AEKK 2-3 times a week, after their registration by the cleaning supervisors of the Municipality or after a telephone notification from the citizens, while every Friday the wooden crates of the public market are collected. The loads are then taken to the Contractor's facilities where further separation and utilization of the various materials contained in the AEKK is carried out.

MUNICIPALITY OF VRILISSIA

In the results of the program so far, the avoidance of the process of burying 922 tons of bases is counted, in less than one year of implementation.

This fact, in addition to the economic benefit it has for the Municipality, reflects a significant environmental benefit for both the soil and the groundwater of Attica. At the same time, it contributes significantly to the reduction of greenhouse gas production (carbon dioxide, methane) which is implied by the burial of waste.

During the planning of the Program, there was a forecast to collect about 550 tons of AEKK within 2018. It started to be implemented from the end of the previous year and continues at a significantly increasing rate. At the beginning of 2018, around 58 tons were collected monthly, in the summer months it increased to 119 tons, while for September alone the amount reached 215 tons. In total, 922 tons have already been collected to date.
