The Region of South Aegean is one of the thirteen regions of Greece. It consists of the Cyclades and Dodecanese island groups in the central and south-eastern Aegean Sea. The capital of the region is situated in Ermoupoli on the island of Syros.

The promotion of the cultural heritage of the Cyclades & Dodecanese islands, the revival of customs, the awareness of the local community and the dissemination and preservation of the local recipes of each island.
To the local communities of the South Aegean islands that make their own effort to preserve cultural heritage and collective memory. It is also addressed to each mom and grandmother, who are the most important pillars of the family and lifelong educators of the youth.

Aegean Mamas Know Best is an initiative of the South Aegean Region, which within the framework of its title of Gastronomic Region of Europe 2019, has set as its main goal the preservation and dissemination of its gastronomic heritage as a key pillar of its cultural specificity. Consisting of 49 islands, which have been the crossroads of civilization for millennia, the South Aegean Region is a unique cultural mosaic, with each island being a separate mosaic in this harmonious island composition.
Mothers in our island societies have always been the main pillar of the family and the man who was responsible for transmitting the unwritten and intangible cultural heritage to the younger generations. So, by raising mothers' awareness of adopting a family-based diet based on tradition and local produce, the transition to a younger, more sustainable, environmentally and culturally conscious lifestyle is guaranteed.
We have contributed to the revival of old customs and recipes, to the preservation of traditional recipes and to the re-enactment of the new generation. We motivated our moms moms to get in on the action by making them feel creative. We gave them a central role in the events and activated them by enhancing their social activity in the local social fabric of the islands. We got them out of inertia.

With the Ambassador of the European Region of Gastronomy South Aegean 2019, Mrs Argiro Barbarigou, Cyclades and Dodecanese Chefs Club, our islands producers, cultural associations, mothers and grandmothers of the South Aegean and Aegean Airlines.
The whole local communities of our islands
The Region οφ South Aegean has contributed to highlighting the benefits of Aegean nutrition to the health and socialization of its islanders, as food brings families and family together around the table, reinforcing family and social bonds. In addition, this action has enhanced the visibility and use of local products.
