Objective Action

Aim of both institutions, the "ANASTASIA ANTONIADOU" Award (A.A.A.) and  the "ANASTASIA ANTONIADOU" Scholarship (A.A.S.) is to honor the memory of a prematurely lost high executive of IMERYS INDUSTRIAL MINERALS HELLAS S.A. with prominent social and volunteering activity in the local society of Milos island. Particularly:

•The A.A.A. is organized annually by the Company with the aim of encouraging both, its employees and the inhabitants of the island’s local community in general, in actions and initiatives in the fields of social, cultural and voluntary contribution
•The A.A.S. is awarded by the Company with the aim of rewarding the efforts and integrity of a female graduate student of the Milos / Kimolos senior high schools (Lyceums), who successfully stood the entrance examinations for one of the country’s Universities.

 

Target Audience

The Local Society of the island of Milos, including the Company’s employees at the local facilities. Particularly:
•As of 2006, the A.A.A.  is addressed to both,  Imerys’ local employees  and Milos residents
•Since its establishment in 2003, the A.A.S. is addressed to women graduates of the Milos / Kimolos senior high schools 

 

Duration

The A.A.A. was established in 2002 and the A.A.S. in 2003 and they have been both annually and uninterruptedly implemented, ever since.


Description

The premature loss, in 2002, of Anastasia Antoniadou, a senior executive of the former S&B Industrial Minerals S.A., (currently IMERYS INDUSTRIAL MINERALS GREECE S.A.), inspired the Company to institutionalize the Award and the Scholarship, both bearing her name, in order to honor her memory and in the benefit of the local community of Milos and Kimolos, in which the Company is active. Anastasia Antoniadou had an outstanding voluntary, social and cultural activity at the island’s local community, at the same time being an excellent mother, professional and scientist.

  • The "ANASTASIA ANTONIADOU" Volunteerism & Social Contribution Award was established in 2002. Initially, it was addressed exclusively to the employees of the Company to motivate them to follow the example of their late colleague in the field of Social Contribution. In 2006, following a relevant proposal by the Local Authorities of Milos, the audience in which the Award is addressed expanded, including the residents of the island.

The A.A.A. comprises a Honorary Diploma as well as a €1,000 Financial Prize and is awarded annually on the basis of a specific Statute that defines in a clear and irreproachable manner:

  • the scope and the definition of award-winning actions
  • the applications’ eligibility
  • the candidates for nominations
  • the members of the Evaluation Committee
  • the nominations’ assessment period
  • the place and way of the Award Ceremony
  • the “content” of the A.A.A.

Over the years, the A.A.Α. has significantly contributed to raising awareness and mobilizing the two islands’ local population on Social Contribution and Volunteerism issues, highlighting and rewarding relevant examples and Good Practices. The institution’s acceptance by the local community makes the work of the Evaluation Committee particularly difficult, since annual candidacy applications are constantly increasing.

  • The Α.Α.S. has become an institution during the last 14 years, since 2003 when it was first launched. Honoring the memory of the deceased colleague and wishing to promote the involvement of women in all areas of social activity (family, professional, scientific, etc.), the Scholarship is addressed to female graduates of Milos (General and Professional) and Kimolos senior  high schools, rewarding one graduate annually, who passed successfully the entrance examinations for the country’s Universities.

The A.A.S. is conferred by priority to candidates who succeeded in entering in mining related faculties, promoting one of the main pillars of the island’s economy.

The scholarship comprises a per annum of €4,000, up to 20,000 Euros in total, plus a honorary diploma.

It is awarded annually on the basis of a specific Statute defining in a clear and irreproachable manner:
 

  • The scope of Schools and Faculties by priority order
  • the conditions and the supporting documents required for the application
  • the criteria for the candidates’ selection and applications’ evaluation
  • the  members of the Evaluation Committee
  • the “content” of the A.A.A. and how it is financed and
  • the place and way of the Award Ceremony

Impact on Society

a. Since 2002, 16 individuals and 1 Volunteers Team have been honored with the A.A.A. for their distinctive actions and social contribution. 

b. Since 2003, 15 female University students from the local communities of Milos/Kimolos  have been financially supported throughout their studies by the A.A. S.



Initiative Location

Islands of Milos and Kimolos (for Kimolos’ residents who work at Imerys’ installations on Milos).


Working with Organization

The initiatives’ ownership belongs solely to IMERYS Industrial Minerals GREECE S.A. but both initiatives’ operation involves many Milos/Kimolos local authorities and bodies. For instance, both Evaluation Committees consist of various local community executives (i.e. the Chairman of both E.C.s is the Mayor of Milos, members are the Heads of Milos Health Center, the Labor Center, the Director of Milos Lyceum etc.).

Workers Participation

Specific executives from the Company’s local staff undertake the annual administrative work and procedures concerning the implementation of both institutions.

Furthermore, as stated above under "Description", before the expanding of the Award’s target-audience, the A.A.A. was addressed exclusively to the Company’s employees, so that they would be encouraged to participate in Social Contribution initiatives.
