Autismap.gr is the first and only guide for autism in Greece and is one of the results of the Research Program "Available Resources for People with ASD in Greece" which was designed and implemented by the Urban Non-Profit Company Child and Adolescent Center.
The creation of the website aims to defend the human rights of people with autism and to promote a society of equal opportunities, acceptance and respect.
The goals of autismap.gr include supporting the rights and social inclusion of people with autism, enhancing their accessibility to appropriate structures and services, informing the wider community and combating stigma.
At this stage the website includes:
A) The presentation of health care providers - mental health, rehabilitation, education, social care and employment: structures and individual professionals, on an interactive map, with geolocation and by provider category (Day Centers, Supported living structures, education, professionals etc.).
B) The existing legislation related to the rights of people with autism, in 6 categories: Basic rights at national, European and global level, Health and Mental Health Services, Education, Social Care, Social Security, Employment. Frequently Asked Questions is used to highlight individual issues and to refine the information provided.
C) Informative articles for the general public: Reputable scientists in the fields of health and education, with many years of research and clinical experience in autism, write articles, presenting scientific information in a way accessible to non-specialists, so that autism is understood and accepted by society.
Our content, in collaboration with other information portals, is enriched with the concerns, views and suggestions of autistic people and their families on health, education and work. In addition, we give a step to the first online newspaper published by people with autism, themates.gr.
Before the operation of autismap.gr there was no similar database, with the available structures and services for people with ASD in Greece, accessible to the general public. Respectively, the relevant legislation was not accessible and concentrated on an organized website while in general the information about autism was spread on the internet.
At the present stage, autismap.gr is at a turning point, from the mapping and presentation of structures, services, legislation and information, which is maintained and increased, proceeds to identify unmet needs and support the development of new services. The planning of new programs for the Promotion of oral hygiene and the supported work of people with autism is moving in this direction, developing a network with bodies that are also active in similar fields (see section Collaboration with another body).
The content of the page is updated regularly and systematically on a monthly basis or more often as needed.
There is no membership fee or subscription for users or any financial transaction with the structures and professionals that are part of the platform.
