Objective Action

Most of the operation and maintenance activities of EGP projects are performed by contractors. The use of contractors in our facilities has some special features that differentiate it from the use of our staff (insufficient knowledge of our facilities / procedures, contractor interaction, insufficient adequacy in matters of Health & Safety at Work (OSH) etc) anddangerous situations can be created that can lead to unsafe behaviors and finally to accidents, which is in contrast with the EGP's vision for workplaces with zero accidents in humans and the environment. The aim of the initiative is to train and "certify" our contractors' understanding of EGP OAS procedures and legislation before entering our facilities.

Target Audience

To all our contractors who cooperate with the company and in exceptional cases (work risk) and to subcontractors.

Duration

The program started in 2019 and continues up to date. The program concerns contractors who have a contract and are a prerequisite to get entry approval for our projects.

Description

In order to address all the risks arising from the specific characteristics as mentioned above, EGP in collaboration with IVEPE-SEV, which holds a leading position in the field of vocational education and training and offers innovative lifelong learning programs, jointly created an educational program with 3 key features:
1. Training of employees (contractors) in EGP procedures, legislation, facility specifics, good practices, emergency conditions, etc.
2. Creation of an evaluation test carried out at the end of the training to capture the level of understanding and competence.
3. Creation of a database with all the results of the participants and issuance of a personal "Green Card" card for the employee to enter the EGP facilities.
The educational program includes 3 modules:
1. Electromechanical - 16 hours
2. Operators ME - 8 hours
3. Elevations - 8 hours

Impact on Society

To date, more than 90 employees have been trained, 11 different contractors, with over 1,200 hours of training. Specifically:

a) 25 people in Mechanical Engineering, 400 hours of training

b) 34 people in Electrical Engineering, 544 hours of training

c) 31 people Lifting Operators, 496 hours of training.
The workers are engineers, technicians and operators of construction machinery. The contractors are mainly technical companies that specialize in maintenance and construction of power generation projects, transport and lifting of loads, etc. The main benefit of these employees is the knowledge they gain from the specific safety seminars that are not only useful for their work on the projects. of Enel but in general throughout their professional career resulting in an increase in the culture of safety in the general social community through their interaction with other professionals in different places.

Initiative Location

Contractors have the opportunity to carry out their training in one of the 4 training centers of SEV IVEPE located in Athens, Thessaloniki, Volos and Patras.

Benefits for Οrganization

Our goal has been achieved in the absence of accidents at our facilities as well as the reduction of non-compliances, just 2 in 33 inspections (2020 data), in the respective fields of training. Apart from the measurable quantities, there are also the quality benefits such as the best reputation of the company in the market through this effort to help establish a safety culture in the general society. It is also a key component of cooperation preference from other companies.
