Objective Action

The objective of the Action is the support to the Region of Crete by the University of Crete in planning initiatives for the integration of SDGs in regional strategies and policies.

More specifically, the objectives of the Action are:

-Activation of the Region of Crete to produce a “roadmap” for the achievement of SDGs in Crete.

-Systematizing public dialogue in order to design structures, processes and policies for sustainable development in Crete.

-Presentation of collaborative private and public sector actions to support sustainable development in Crete.

 

Target Audience

The Action is addressed to the Region of Crete as a Local Government Organization. In particular, it addresses all Directorates of the Region of Crete that are invited to integrate the results of the public consultation, on sustainable development, with entrepreneurs, NGOs, civil society, educational and research institutions on the island.

 

Duration

Starting date: 30/9/2019 (Signature of the Convention between the Region of Crete and the University of Crete)

Ending date: 30/9/2020


Description

The Action is analyzed in the following areas:

- Awareness of the Region of Crete to exploit the opportunities of SDGs in sustainable regional development.

- Study of best practices for adapting SDGs to European Union (EU) Regions.

- Mobilizing cooperation between the Region of Crete and stakeholders on good practices as well as on identifying areas of cooperation.

-Discover the material issues and the potentials of the Region of Crete for the integration of SDGs into its development policy framework.

-Support Strategic and Operational Planning to all horizontal and vertical policies of the Region of Crete for the inclusion of projects in the new NSRF within an SDGs context.

- Actions and policies to measure the performance of the Region of Crete in achieving the SDGs.

Impact on Society

The Action is expected to have the following impact on Crete:

- Promotion of regional development policies, adapted to local conditions, with a long-term positive impact.

- Contribution to better targeting and allocation of resources to the most vulnerable groups and / or lagging areas, based on their sustainable development.

- Contribution to improve the involvement of local and regional authorities for greater accountability and accountability.

The achievement of the above helps in the end goal of creating a long-term regional strategic planning based on sustainable development.

Workers Participation

The implementation of the Action will be based on the approach of fully meeting the needs of the staff of the Region of Crete for the integration and prioritization of SDGs in the Region of Crete.

Within the framework of the Action, faculty members and researchers from the University of Crete, specializing in sustainable development, will coordinate the transfer of know-how in the integration and prioritization of SDGs in the Region of Crete.
