Objective Action

"Chocolate and Pavlidis" is an educational program  based on research, study, collaboration, helping to build a pleasant experience and aims at:

  • developing the children's abilities to understand the objects and functions of the natural and artificial world
  • providing ways of independent study to the children, giving the opportunity to research and discover data rather than simply transmitting information.

Through the Program, the children:

  • get familiar with an industry standard, with the production areas and the working environment of a factory
  • are involved in research into chocolate ingredients and nutritional value, the history of the Pavlidis plant and the production of chocolate from the cocoa to the plant.

The curriculum is the result of interdisciplinary cooperation and has been developed on the basis of the needs and capabilities of the public, the limitations and the possibilities of the venue and the curriculum of the school.

Initiative Location

The program  "Chocolate and Pavlidis" takes place in the Chocolate factory “Pavlidis” (Pireos 135, Athens). The pastry shop of Spyridon Pavlidis opened his doors in 1841 with the first chocolate in Greece to be made in 1852. Nine years later, in 1861, the legendary "Ygeias" (translated: Health) chocolate was made, which won the first gold medal in Paris in 1865.

Approximately ten years later (1876), the Pavlidis plant was established and it is still remarkable that during World War II, the factory was forced to produce pharmaceutical materials.

Now, almost 170 years later, Pavlidis plant and the international company Mondelēz International are guaranteeing high quality and tasty chocolate products that are enjoyed by millions of Greeks daily. Most importantly, however, even so many generations later, the company continues to operate based on the same timeless values, combining long-standing tradition with high know-how and aiming at the ultimate satisfaction of consumers .
