"SKYROS" Project is the gold collaboration of University of the Aegean and Skyros Port Fund. From 2015, students take part in internship and offer an innovative and multi-awards environmental campaign with free environmental services, in Linaria Port.

“Skyros” Project aims to promote Responsible Environmental Behavior through actionsthat enhance the development of critical assessment capabilities and active participation skills in environmental decision-making. In other words, aim of this program is the production of Active Citizens in Environmental Issues, through an approach based in “Education-Participation-Communication”.
“Skyros” project is addressed to the local community of Skyros and visitors to Linaria Port, Skyros.
Every summer, since summer 2015, “Skyros Project” is actively taking place in the area of Linaria Port. Nevertheless, research is being carried out during the whole year.
“SKYROS” Project is an Environmental Campaign Project, in Linaria Port. This Project has been characterized as GOLD and it is an innovative collaboration between two public entities, University of the Aegean and Skyros Port Fund.
In May 2015, students and researchers of the unique statutory in Greece Research Center of Environmental Communication and Education, of Department of Environment, of University of the Aegean, carried their practical training out, with various environmental researches at Linaria port. The new generation of environmental scientists trained to convert theory to practice. On the other hand, Linaria port is the fullest small ordinary Public Port which has many awards. It has established an innovative agenda with respect on environment. On that note, Linaria Port has been characterized the blue port with the shape of green.
In that respect, up today, “SKYROS” Project is the one that hosts students, researchers and volunteers in Skyros Island and disposes of them an open experiential environmental communication and education laboratory, in real time conditions. At the same time, since 2016, the 1st International Summer Academy of Environmental Instructors has been established, which to date has trained more than 65 students / scientists.
In the third year of action, “Skyros” continues with specific environmental actions in Linaria Port and goes beyond geographical borders of Skyros Island, as it tries to create a human sensitivity chain of active citizens around Greece.
The Gold collaboration of University of the Aegean and Skyros Port Fund is confirmed by the actions it chooses. Most of them have been awarded by notable entities. However, distinguish that seal the deal with United Nation.
In 2015, the research of the first Tourist Observatory was awarded with GOLD Tourist Award and was useful to the local community. In 2016, in Linaria Port took place the first Summer Academy about Environmental Educators, which was awarded in ECOPOLIS 2017 Awards. Also, in the same year, a video about climate changed was directed by students. This video participated in a video competition in the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Marrakesh Morocco (COP22). The participation received tremendous support and achieved the first place in “People Choice”, because of the successful communication approach of members of “Skyros” and the potential promotion of the visitors in Linaria Port from various countries. One more environmental research of the first Observatory of Maritime Tourism was awarded with Tourism Award 2017.
“Skyros” Project has won Honor Awards, congratulations of state entities, political leadership, university communities and the local people of Skyros Island. The extraversion of “Skyros” Project surrounded with participation in national and international conferences, as well as a number of collaborations with other universities, entities and associations.
“Skyros Project” takes place atLinaria Port, the small tourist port of Skyros. Since 2010, there has been a 1300% increase in arrivals of recreational boats (data summer 2017).Skyros Port Fund, has invested in a sustainable agenda thattakes actions in order to harmonize the local community, the increase of the economy and the preservation of the environment.

The Research Center of Environmental Communication and Education, of Department of Environment of University of the Aegean aims to promote Responsible Environmental Behavior. Through the Environmental Campaign "Skyros Project", the Lab has found ground for the theory to come out of the academic classrooms and become a reality through campaign actions and the collaboration with Skyros Port Fund.
