Objective Action
The aim of the action is to highlight the history of the Castle of Velika and the wider area of Ancient Melivia through the voluntary work of the students of the Department of Archeology of the University of Thessaly and Universities abroad, as well as the residents of the area, with the participation of local associations.
Target Audience
University students from Greece and abroad who wish to carry out their practical training and volunteer residents or members of local organizations who wish to help highlight the history of the area and the Castle of Velika.
Duration
The duration of the action includes the spring season of excavations at the Castle of Velika as it has been organized every year since 2011 when the action took place for the first time.
Description
Since 2011 every year during the spring season of excavations for which the Antiquities Tax Office of Larissa is responsible, students of the University of Thessaly, Department of History, Archeology and Social Anthropology under the supervision of their professor and students of Universities Abroad, also under the supervision of their teachers, carry out their internship at the Castle of Velika. The Municipality of Agia offers accommodation, transportation, the necessary equipment and the expertise of its employees, who volunteer their services. The cost of food is covered by the Municipality of Agia, while the preparation of the meals is undertaken voluntarily by the members of the Melivoia Women's Association.

Impact on Society
The students carry out their internship with the full support of the Municipality of Agia to meet their needs, while at the same time the volunteer residents and the members of the clubs actively participate in the promotion and preservation of the cultural heritage of their place.

The action takes place every year in the archaeological site of the Castle of Velika and in the Municipal Unit of Melivoia of the Municipality of Agia.

During the 8-year duration of this action, the most important benefit for the Municipality of Agia is the enormous progress in highlighting the Castle of Velika, the creation of the Archaeological Collection of Melivoia with the findings of the excavations as well as their exhibition in the "Timeless Museum of Larissa". Also, the practical participation of the residents and members of the associations over time have highlighted the preservation of the cultural heritage of the area as a key priority of the local community.
