Objective Action

The Adolescents Community Center Intervention is an immediate access service aimed at responding to the new needs created by the combination of the socio-economic crisis and the spread of substance use among the young population of Attica. It is addressed to teenagers and young people in Athens facing social exclusion, delinquency, personal deadlocks, substance use or abuse and is a teen-friendly service.

Depending on the objectives, its services are developed in 5 levels of intervention:

    Person: Counseling, (individual, group) crisis intervention, mobilization (at the Center, in schools, or in the courts), evaluation, referral.
    Family: Information, counseling (individual, group), crisis intervention, referral, short-term intervention, Parents' School.
    School: Information, teacher training, crisis intervention, operation of counseling stations, networking with schools,  OAED
    Community: Community information interventions, parent information, professional training, networking with community organizations and businesses, associations of residents and immigrants, NGOs, shops, church, police.

 

Target Audience

The main target group of the Center are adolescents and young adults up to 21 years of age in the center of Athens with problems and difficulties of social exclusion, delinquency, personal deadlocks, substance use and abuse. However, it also provides services to Parents, Teachers, Associations, mental health and social services professionals, juvenile caretakers, local shopkeepers, priests, and police officers.

Description

The Community Adolescent Intervention Center hosts:

a YOUTH CENTER

The Youth Hangout is a stable space that provides the opportunity for young people up to 22 years old to participate in various activities with the central goal of promoting a healthy lifestyle.

The activities it includes are:

A) Recreational-creative (movie screenings, board games, music, small excursions, graffiti, painting, cooking, theatrical play, etc.) and which are supported by properly trained volunteers.

B) Educational through the implementation of a series of psychoeducational programs for young people related to topics such as: development of personal and social skills (recognition-expression of emotions, communication, development of healthy networks, decision making, assertiveness, targeting, planning, etc.) , management-utilization of free time, investigation of special issues of sex and sexual behavior, nutrition, etc.

A total of about 60-70 young people participate in its programs each year

Summer program for young teenagers (11-13 years old) and middle teenagers (14-16 years old)

SUMMER SCHOOL

The summer program is developed in July in 2 zones (morning and afternoon) depending on the age of the young people and is addressed to young people in the Center of Athens who due to financial and other difficulties are not given the opportunity to go on holidays.. It follows the form of the Youth Hangout Center, hosting activities that enhance peer education.

About 40-50 young people (children and teenagers) participate in its programs, and the largest percentage of them are new members.
