Objective Action

The aim of this action was the continuous reduction of the carbon footprint of our Company's activities, and at the same time, the correct management of motor fuels and cost reduction.

Target Audience

PTL's environmental initiative is aimed first of all at the Company's employees as it educates them informally and by example in a more environmentally friendly lifestyle.

In addition, the action has an impact on a wider society and the people who live in the areas adjacent to the arterial roads used by our fleet of trucks.

Duration

The initiative was implemented in 2017 and the countermeasures were designed and completed in 2018.

Description

The purpose of the action was to measure our company's emissions into the environment and to decide on the compensation measures we would take.

A certified international method was used by the OPTILOG company of Professor Vassilis Zeibekis. The elements on which the methodology was based were as follows:

1. Chronology of vehicles

2. Liters of consumption per month

3. Kilometers traveled per month

4. Tons transported per truck and per month

The results that were extracted are the following:

1. Kilometers traveled per ton of fuel

2. Pollutant emissions per month

3. Pollutant emissions per truck on an annual basis and on a monthly basis

4. Emissions of pollutants in combination with the date of the vehicle

With the extraction of the results, it was decided by the Company's Management to take the following compensation measures:

1. Converting a truck from diesel to mixed fuel i.e. 80/100 CNG and 20/100 diesel.

2. Investment in EURO V + trucks

3. Advanced vehicle tracking systems for sustainable driving (eco driving)

Impact on Society

The results of the action on the external public of the Company are the lower fuel consumption, therefore, and as a consequence, there are more environmentally friendly transports, with a noticeable reduction in gaseous pollutant emissions, such as carbon dioxide and micro-particles.

Initiative Location

The collection of CO2 information was carried out from the itineraries carried out by our company within the Greek territory and mainly within the road axis from north-west Greece to the prefecture of Attica and vice versa.

The installation of the CNG was carried out in a VOLVO EURO V brand truck that operates on the specific road network, while the mechanical installation was done in Athens by a specialized workshop and the installation materials were purchased from Italy, which is a pioneer in this type of fuel.

Benefits for Οrganization

In addition to the above, there are also measurable benefits for the Company itself, as due to the lower fuel consumption in general, but also the consumption of greener fuel in particular, the costs burdened by transport are significantly reduced by 17%.

In addition, through the eco driving system, in the event that a vehicle is in motion, and the driver accelerates or decelerates sharply, an intense sound is heard in the driver's cabin. This is captured on a daily basis and through a software program, the driver's performance is captured on the main computers in our offices. In this way we are able to constantly check the driving response of our employee drivers, which has improved dramatically, resulting in a safe driving behavior with zero accidents and violations. Thus, we protect both our workers and ensure the safety of the rest of the drivers on our country's road network.

Finally, with this specific initiative, we are promoting a profile of a responsible company despite our small size, both in the local community of Arta where we are based and nationwide, and to our international customers.
