Objective Action

Floods of the last period have clearly highlighted a necessity. The generation of significant volumes of debris , often overwhelming existing waste management capacities .Flood debris consists of materials, matter, objects and sediment that, after the water has risen, are unfit for use, in an unusable state, and likely to have a negative effect on the environment, human health or public health, and can threaten biodiversity. According to “Dardanos” Plan, Municipalities are responsible for managing this situation.

The main objective of the action is the preparation, design, evaluation, costing and pilot implementation of a project on the management of waste materials and debris by the Municipalities, which arise from the occurrence of floods. Additionally the calculation of the environmental footprint  and sustainability performance of the action will transparently communicate the environmental performance and impact of the action. Also measuring progress towards sustainable development is an integral part of the action.
