Objective Action

Starting from the complex role of the sanctuary of Dodoni during Greek antiquity, the purpose of the symposium is to search for connections between Ancient Greek and Psychoanalytic thought, focusing on the triptych "Omen-Interpretation-Prevention".

Target Audience

The Symposium is addressed to individuals and organizations active in fields with scientific relevance. Furthermore, it is pointed out that it is more creative for the participants to take part in all the activities of the Symposium, which are interrelated.

Duration

7 & 8 July 2018

Description

The theme of the Interdisciplinary Symposium of Ancient Dodoni is: "The Connection of Ancient Greek with Psychoanalytic and Group-Analytical Thinking: Omen - Interpretation - Prevention". Group - Analytical Thinking, based on a holistic perception of things, connecting past, present, and future, possibly, can contribute to new meanings and emergences, as well as new perspectives of approaching our ancient heritage and highlighting its value in becoming global. The symposium program includes:

  • Short presentations by Group Analysts, Archaeologists and Historians, which were completed through the dialogue with the audience.
  • Groups (Small and Large) for experiential participation and discussion.

The Groups (Small and Large) gave the participants the opportunity to explore and connect experiential experiences with thoughts and knowledge, on issues that deeply concerned and concern human existence.

According to the philosophy of Group Analysis, the contribution of the audience to the discussion, both on the occasion of the presentations and within the Groups, is considered to be of equal importance to the prepared speeches.

At the same time, the scientific works of the Symposium interact with artistic events:

  • "Music of Soundscape of Dodoni": Dimitris Karageorgos
  • Narration of fragments of Orphic hymns and ancient Greek tragedies by the actors: Gianna Koula, Yolanda Kaperda and Vassili Siafis3
  • Song: Irini Dova, Subwoofer
  • Sculpture Exhibition "My ghosts": Theodoros Papagiannis (Professor Emeritus of Sculpture at the School of Fine Arts of Athens - Founder of the Museum of Contemporary Art "Th. Papagiannis" - Elliniko, Ioannina)

Impact on Society

The Group-Analytical Symposium of Ancient Dodoni ended with the best impressions, both for the dozens of distinguished scientists, who participated with presentations, and for the large audience that faithfully attended all the sessions, in an unprecedented event for the region.

This is the first symposium in the world that was realized with the collaboration of a group of archaeologists and psychoanalysts and whose theme was the connection of ancient Greek and psychoanalytic thought.

Leading scientists from the disciplines of Psychoanalysis and Archaeology, having as their starting point the complex role of the sanctuary of Dodoni, thoroughly investigated the connections of Ancient Greek with Psychoanalytic thought, focusing on the triptych "Omen-Interpretation-Prevention". This theoretical approach has contributed to new meanings and emergences, as well as to new perspectives of approaching the ancient heritage and highlighting its value in global development.

A highlight for all participants was the afternoon session on July 7, which took place in the Orchestra of the Ancient Theater of Dodoni, with the symbolism and connections of space, time, arts and sciences occupying a dominant position. The impact that this activity had was particularly great as more than 130 people signed up and followed his work. Indicative of the quality of the Symposium is the open letter addressed to the Mayor of Dodoni, Mr. Christos Dakaletsi, by Mr. Iason Maratos (MPhil, DPM, FRPsych, MlnstGA Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Group Analyst, Medical Director of PPCS, London ), as the Guest of Honor of the Symposium.
