The Region of Thessaly is one of the thirteen regions of Greece. It consists of vast agricultural lands, which is why its inhabitants are mainly fed by agriculture and animal husbandry. Notable places that can be visited are Kalambaka with Meteora, Pyli with its unique Monasteries and Bridges, Elati, the Pertouli Ski Center of the Municipality of Pyli, Pelion and Lake N. Plastira.

Objective Action

The Social Integration Observatory of the Thessaly Region investigates and monitors the particular conditions and parameters that shape poverty.

Through research, actions and the participation of all agencies and active citizens, the Social Inclusion Observatory of Thessaly contributes to equal access to Social Services, to an inclusive labor market, to the strengthening of social cohesion and to the improvement of the quality of life of the residents of our Region.

Sufficient information and easy access to services can make a decisive contribution to achieving our goal of an inclusive society.

 

Target Audience

Directly to all citizens of the Region of Thessaly who want to:

  • Be informed about the Social Integration Structures in their area
  • To look for the Structure they want according to their needs
  • To benefit from the services provided by the Structures

In the Map of Social Structures in the Region of Thessaly, one can search for Social Care and Integration Services in Thessaly, based on the Geographical boundaries of the Structure, (Regional Unit, Municipality), the type of Structure, (Community Center, Community Center, etc.), as well as by based on the services provided (Education, feeding, etc.). One can also search for the nearest structures based on their geographical location

Description

The Social Inclusion Observatory of the Region of Thessaly was created based on Law 4445/2016 within the framework of the National Mechanism for Coordination, Monitoring and Evaluation of Social Inclusion and Social Cohesion Policies.

As a new institution, the Regional Observatory of Social Integration of Thessaly aspires to create modern tools for monitoring and supporting social cohesion which will contribute positively to the creation of an inclusive society without exclusions.

By investigating real living conditions and services provided, it maps, informs, networks structures, promotes and strengthens consultation, creates synergies that contribute to ensuring decent living conditions and integration for all citizens.

The Social Integration Observatory of the Region of Thessaly (PEPKE) aims to:

  • in the effective monitoring and coordination of the goals which are specified in the framework of the Regional Social Integration Strategy (PESKE),
  • highlighting local needs in matters of social protection, welfare and solidarity policies,
  • in the transmission of data and information to the E.GP.S. of the National Mechanism,
  • in capturing and mapping the spatial dimensions of poverty and social exclusion.

As a pillar of social inclusion at the regional level, it carries out the following actions:

  • the preparation of an annual Regional Survey of Income and Living Conditions to ascertain the effects of specific policies on improving the quality of life of the residents of the relevant Region,
  • the development and implementation of tools and indicators for monitoring the social integration processes of PESKE beneficiaries, especially in issues related to integration into the labor market and the development of economic activity,
  • the monitoring and recording of social phenomena, such as extreme poverty, over-indebted households and dealing with social problems, especially of vulnerable population groups,
  • the operation of the online portal for the registration of poverty and social exclusion, the collection, processing and analysis of aggregated data of a statistical nature and reports of social phenomena at the regional and local level, as well as actions of the regional strategy.

Consultation

An important objective of the Regional Observatory of Social Integration of the Thessaly Region is the highlighting of local needs in matters of social protection, welfare and solidarity policies as well as the formulation of social policy proposals to address them. In order to achieve this goal, an important tool is the consultation with local and regional agencies, which are involved in interventions of a social nature, as well as citizens.

Two types of consultations have been established, the Consultations with the agencies and the e-forum "Participate".

The Directorate of Social Care of the Region of Thessaly, the Regional Consultation Committee, the competent Service of the Decentralized Administration, the Special Service for the Management of the Operational Program of the Region of Thessaly, the Social Services of the Municipalities, the Municipal Consultation Committees, the implementing bodies of social interventions participate in the Consultations. character.

In the e-forum "Participate", citizens, beneficiaries and civil society bodies that do not participate in the institutional consultation of the bodies can participate, in order to submit their opinions on the planning, but also the implementation of social protection, welfare and solidarity projects or to submit their own ideas and suggestions.

Benefits for Οrganization

Kindergarten vouchers for children from families below the poverty line have benefited more than 30,400 people and more than 35,000 children from the 2015-2016 school year through this year.

With the specialized Educational Support for the Integration of Students with Disabilities or Special Educational Needs, from the 2015-2016 school year up to the current year, 392 people benefited.

1,591 women benefited from the support structures for abused women (3 Counseling Centers and 2 Hostels).

With the 4 Day Care Centers for the Elderly, 182 people have benefited so far.

With the 2 Day Care Centers for Persons with Disabilities we have 53 beneficiaries to date.

With the 2 Supported Living Residences in Volos we have 14 beneficiaries.

With the 25 Community Centers in the Municipalities of Thessaly, the beneficiaries to date exceed 50,000 while the employees in these Structures are 97.

With the 11 Local Health Units in Thessaly, the beneficiaries to date are 4,400 people while the structures employ 132 people.

So far we have 1,160 beneficiaries from the 7 Mental Health Support Structures.

From the 7 Support Structures to fight addiction, we have so far 185 beneficiaries.

From the 8 Structures providing basic goods: 4 Social Pharmacies and 4 Social Grocers in the capitals of the Regional Units of Thessaly we have up to now 4,250 beneficiaries.

200 people benefited from the financing of the Auxiliary auxiliary staff of 15 Public Health Structures.

With the financing of the auxiliary support staff for 2 Migrant Structures in Thessaly during the Covid period, 28 people benefited.
