Objective Action

The aim of the exhibition is to inform visitors, especially children, about earthquakes. In addition, it will offer the opportunity to “explore” this natural phenomenon, learn how to protect and become familiar with it, as it is particularly common in Greece, that is characterised by intense seismic activity.

It is worth noting that children living in Athens aged between 6-16 haven’t experienced any major earthquake in their lifetime. Also, through virtual reality and the help of experiential media, children and families will experience the earthquake and learn what to do before, during and after one occurs.

Target Audience

The exhibition is aimed at children between the age of 10 and 15 (upper classes of primary and secondary school) as well as their families, teachers and the general public.

Duration

The exhibition began on Wednesday 23 May 2018 and will run for a whole year, until June 2019.

Description

The digital exhibition “Earthquake in the Museum” is an educational trip that allows the visitor to "wander" through all aspects of this multifaceted natural phenomenon in a realistic and interactive way.

The well-trained designers of the exhibition’s flow worked with a scientifically-based approach, that employs the most innovative technological methods - realistic hydrogeological models detailing the geological phenomenon, educational videos showing the great earthquakes that shook modern Greece, live transmissions of seismic vibrations and a wealth of informative and experiential exhibits.

The vibration bank and the VR chair included in the exhibition take on the role of earthquake simulators, inviting visitors to experience this phenomenon, as well as to understand the importance to shield buildings properly

The interactive experience is complemented by the “Earthquake in My City,” in which the user understands how secure each location is in a city, and “Become an earthquake expert,” where young and older visitors test their knowledge, conquering the title of the “Earthquake expert!”

Meanwhile, educational programmes for primary, secondary and high school students will be carried out at regular intervals, as well as two workshops for teachers and the general public.

Benefits for Οrganization

The mission of the people of worldwide is to help their fellow citizens to live a better life. In this context, AXA Greece is strategically active in the areas of health, car and home. Residences are, for the most part, the most important investment of the Greeks. Nonetheless, lack of awareness for reasons that can lead to serious damage and disasters (fires, earthquakes, floods) leads Greeks to limited or no protection and prevention measures. As a result, every year a very large number of homes are damaged or completely destroyed. AXA, investing in research (with the AXA Research Fund) on earthquake prevention and being one of the world's top choices, is strengthening its social face through the digital exhibition "Earthquake in the Museum" .

Thus, by inviting the public to get acquainted with such an interesting Greece-related issue and by offering a realistic experience of it, AXA Insurance proves once again that it is a pioneering company that follows current trends, it doesn’t compromise with stereotypes and, through such fresh ideas is reaching out to an even greater share of the audience, establishing a very positive image.

Meanwhile, it also contributes to education by providing useful insights into earthquakes in a way that will leave visitors a lasting impression and provide important supplies for the future ... in the event of an earthquake!
