Objective Action

The aim of this initiative was twofold. During the general traffic ban during the first outbreak of the pandemic in Greece, the movement of citizens decreased dramatically, creating less workload for people in the Emergency and Roadside Assistance. Given the existence of the volunteer group "Emergency Dressmakers" and the very important project they have undertaken (voluntary sewing of masks) we decided to use our infrastructure (people and vehicles of Immediate and Roadside Assistance) to transport from the volunteers, avoiding the costs of transporting them (due to a traffic ban) with a courier company that would have to be covered by them.

Target Audience

Duration

The action took place in 2 time intervals. The first concerns the 1st quarantine period March to April and the second took place in September 2020

Description

The "Emergency Dressmakers" were created to meet a practical need for precautionary masks in the midst of coronavirus pandemic. They are not NGOs or organizations - they are a voluntary movement. The "Emergency Dressmakers" are the result of an initiative of the artist Marios Eleftheriadis from Thessaloniki, who together with the clothing craftsman Konstantinos Tektonidis decided to move the "gear" to make fabric masks on March 27, 2020. The active Dressmakersnow reach 300 being the largest charitable initiative in the country for mask sewing.

Interamerican is also a pioneer in social responsibility. During the pandemic crisis in support of public health, it has also recruited the fleet of roadside assistance vehicles and its people to collect the masks from the Dressmakers and deliver them to hospitals and health facilities. A contribution of special value, which practically solves the problem of the many itineraries required to gather the masks from so many points and get where they need to be. INTERAMERICAN Roadside Assistance people are not just trained to serve customers, they are primarily Social Assistance people. 20,000 cloth, reusable masks with a filter case were sewn by the "Emergency Dressmakers" collected by Interamerican and placed in boxes and delivered, on May 5, to the 4th Ministry of Health of Macedonia & Thrace as a donation to the Ministry. health centers soon, depending on the needs that have arisen due to the pandemic. The collection of the masks by the Dressmakers and their delivery to the Infectious Diseases Hospital of Thessaloniki was undertaken by INTERAMERICAN Assistance, mobilizing its vehicles and people. In a letter, the Minister of Health, Vassilis Kikilias, thanked the "Emergency Dressmakers" for their extremely important initiative and donation.

The action continues during the second period of the pandemic outbreak, following exactly the same model, with the result that more than 20,000 masks have already been collected and are being prepared for delivery to the country's hospitals.
