Objective Action

Since 2013, PETROU NUTS SA has documented the SEDEX SMETA program that related to labour rights, health and safety, environment and business ethics. The system concerns all those who cooperate with Petrou Nuts SA. The company is committed to collaborating with approved employees, suppliers, and other stakeholders, whose philosophy is to give respect to the human rights. In case of any breach, each stakeholder is responsible for the immediate interruption of the cooperation. Since March 2016, with deep faith in human rights and ethics, Mrs. Petrou Angeliki, President and CEO of Petrou Nuts S.A., is one of the Board Directors of the Global Organization (SEDEX).

PETROU NUTS S.A. is a model company for Greece and the greek banks it cooperates with, as proven by the report prepared by the National Bank of Greece.

PETROU NUTS SA comply with documented procedures since 2013. The company was the first supplier in Greece that became a member of SEDEX. After Mrs. Petrou Angeliki’s election to the Board of Directors, the Greek Sedex members rise up to 200.


Description

PETROU NUTS S.A. is a living and evolving organization which incorporates its shareholders, directors and employees. Its manpower is a top priority, mostly consisting by local people. As a result, local community is developed, local economy is empowered, while at the same time numerous families with financial problems are supported, as an effort to combat unemployment and poverty. It should be noted that despite the harsh time that the Greek economy encounters, the salaries we offer respect human dignity without exploiting our employees, abstaining from any violation of community legislation. Another crucial point is that no employee has ever been fired by the company throughout its 50 years of operation.

PETROU NUTS S.A. has been investing on its employees through ongoing training, setting as priority the respect and the economy of nature. It paves the way for evolution, motivates their productivity (product awards, bonuses, collective social activities, etc.) and as a result, our employees, in addition to their remuneration, choose to support our Company in good and in bad times, giving their heart and soul, always being PROUD of being employed with PETROU NUTS S.A.

As to raw material and its suppliers, PETROU NUTS S.A. mostly prefers Greek producers. Yet, the quantities of nuts produced in Greece cannot fully cover the needs of industrial production. Therefore, the Company has been encouraging new Greek farmers to move towards the primary sector and specifically towards organic crops, always under the guidance of our Company and in compliance with the code of ethics we have established. The Company provides its specialized personnel (agronomists, food experts, etc.) at no cost, who consult new producers on nuts crops, respecting the statutory good farming practices. We indicatively mention that our Company has provided (at no charge) numerous new farmers– potential suppliers thereof - with hazelnut tree's roots all over Greece (for example, Naxos Island, Peloponnesus, Veroia) in an effort to revive hazelnut cultivation in Greece.

PETROU NUTS S.A. deeply respects its customers, always providing them in time with pure and top quality products, free of additives and conservatives. Our Research and Development department never stops innovating, trying to maintain the existing products as well as to create new formulas, produced through natural and pure methods, without artificial or chemical agents, something that opposes to the interests of a profit-making organization. The core principle of our Company lies in launching products which shall be firstly tested and consumed by Company shareholders, employees and children and then by the end consumers – customers.

PETROU Family respects the environment, in its pursuit of simplicity, purity and sustainability. To this end, the last two years, we have converted numerous private hazelnut crops to organic ones and at the same time we operate a certified organic nuts processing plant. During the forthcoming 3 years, PETROU NUTS S.A. aims to turn its organic crops into biodynamic ones, so as to promote respect towards nature and humans, something that is pretty much neglected in terms of environment and society, with the needed support by all parties involved (suppliers, employees, customers, local community, etc.).

PETROU NUTS S.A. proves on daily basis its great consideration to nature by using environmentally friendly materials, abiding by the stipulated recycling procedures for packaging materials used by processing plants, upgrading its facilities in terms of energy, whilst, at the same time the Company struggles to eliminate the production of any contaminants that may be produced by its operations. Indicatively, we use our product residuals for the creation of compost and use it as a natural fertilizer in our crops.

Impact on Society

The Company itself has been struggling for 50 years, without a single European or other funding, investing its own equity and being guided by dignity to humans and the environment. Profit is made when honesty and dignity form the basis of an organization. Pride is the emotion – result to be achieved. This is the reason why the Company will step forward, having no fear of debts or political changes. This is the reason why all its stakeholders will fight for this Company, not only for the existence of the Company but their own existence, making dreams and making their dreams come true, despite the adverse conditions. The daily assessment of our customers, employees and suppliers make us, a small-medium company, feel proud. This is our intention since the day that the company was introduced to the principles and the values of SEDEX international organization (2013), as that was the key for going beyond the national borders. For PETROU NUTS S.A., SEDEX has been its eyes to a brand new bigger world, the developing countries, injustice, abuse of human nature and rights. SEDEX was the reason why PETROU NUTS S.A. felt proud of itself, a feeling much detected but not assessed because we believed that all enterprises worldwide abide by the same principles. Finally, SEDEX was one of the reasons why our Company managed to stand out and become motivated in bad times, managed to grow when legislation called for its punishment, to hope when it seemed futile, to struggle and exist up to this very day.

Within the framework of its Corporate Social Responsibility and respect to human nature, PETROU NUTS S.A. has organized “I can, I give” social action, wherein all the parties involved (customers, suppliers, employees, local community, etc.) can participate. Within such action, food and gifts are offered to vulnerable social groups and families with financial problems. Soon enough, the Company wishes to expand this action so as to embrace and promote environmental awareness. Our goal for next year is to empower the training character of such action, calling big food industries to actively participate in value building, such as social input, mutual assistance, respect to human rights and the environment.



Initiative Location

The action is global and the procedures are applied to all suppliers and other stakeholders, who cooperate with Petrou Nuts SA around the world. For example, all suppliers from third countries and Europe have to be approved in relation to the above-mentioned parameters.
