SKYROS PROJECT

Objective Action

The aim of the Skyros Project is to introduce a new way of practical environmental education and health education where the trained participants also act as citizen educators, promoting responsible environmental behavior. The port of Linaria Skyros becomes a tool of environmental awareness and health promotion where through the program the theory is put into practice in real conditions.

Target Audience

To all citizens locally and globally.

Duration

The Skyros Project has been active since 2015 in the port of Linaria every summer.

Description

The Skyros Project as a service ecosystem collaborates with various stakeholders to co-create environmental communication services with the ultimate goal of promoting environmental awareness. These services include Student Internship at the Port, Tourism and Marine Observatories, Environmental Camp for Children, Art Workshop (Trash Art) and the Summer Academy of Environmental Educators. As a whole, the above services train the future environmental ambassadors of the goals of sustainable development.

Impact on Society

The results of the action have a multifaceted impact on the public which is reflected in a series of measurements based on scientific research carried out under the program (such as through tourist and marine observatories).

The results are reflected in the rapid increase in port traffic that has literally skyrocketed in recent years due to all the environmental practices that are successfully implemented in the port of Linaria. The impact can have an impact on everyone involved in the activities, from the young children involved in the environmental camp, to the local community enjoying the benefits of an excellent environmental port where through actions you promote non-environmental awareness. At the same time, the future environmental ambassadors are actively trained where their impact on society as a whole can offer multiplier benefits depending on the actions that they themselves will participate in turn. Finally, the results of the Skyros Project action have been awarded internationally and globally.

Initiative Location

The place of the actions is Linaria Port at Skyros island.
