Description

The Action Plan for the promotion of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans in the Region of Central Macedonia (PKM) was drawn up and is being implemented within the framework of the European project REFORM (Integrated REgional Action Plan For Innovative, Sustainable and Low CaRbon Mobility), which is co-financed by the INTERREG Europe program . The REFORM project aims to increase the number of cities that will implement an EMP in four European regions: Central Macedonia (Greece), Emilia-Romagna (Italy), Greater Manchester (Great Britain) and Parkstad Limburg (Netherlands), through the strengthening of the central role attributed to the Regions as supporters not only of large, but also of small and medium sized Municipalities for the drafting and implementation of the SBAK.

For the formulation of the Action Plan, the PCM followed the following steps: 1.Analysis of the existing situation, 2.Meetings for the exchange of know-how, 3.Evaluation of good practices and 4.Consultation actions. The PKM Action Plan that was finally formulated for the promotion of SBAK proposes:

  • At the regional level, the creation of a "Competence Center" which will provide technical support to the Municipalities of PKK for the development of SBAK and at the same time will act as a channel of communication between the interested parties for the exchange of experiences and good practices.
  • At the metropolitan level, the creation of an "Observatory of Sustainable Urban Development" which will collect, analyze and organize data from the local SBAK of the Municipalities to create accessible and updated databases to support the unified planning for the mobility projects at the metropolitan level.

It was followed by the new trainers, the training of employees and executives of the municipalities of PKK so as to create a channel of communication between the interested parties through the important executive personnel who were trained for the development and implementation of a SBAK according to the instructions of ELTIS throughout the territory of the PKK.

At a special event, a Declaration of Intent for Cooperation was signed between the Metropolitan Unit of Thessaloniki of the PKK and the eight Municipalities of the Metropolitan Region of Thessaloniki within the framework of the Observatory of Sustainable Urban Development of the Urban Region of Thessaloniki.
