Public is a Greek chain of retail stores selling technology, culture and communication products, which was founded in 2005. The chain is a subsidiary company of the Olympia Group of Companies of the interests of Panos Germanos. It has stores in Greece and Cyprus and cooperates with mobile phone providers and electronics companies for the exclusive distribution of its products. In addition, Public offers the service of buying theater tickets, concerts and other international performances either by phone or from the network of stores.



Objective Action

The support of the sensitive social groups affected by the fires of 2018. More specifically, Public's action was aimed at relieving the children and their families in the fire-affected areas shortly before the start of the new school year by offering the necessary school supplies .

 

Target Audience

The families affected by the recent fires (July 2018) in the Municipality of Rafina - Pikermiou & in the Municipality of Marathon.

Description

PUBLIC stores, a subsidiary company of the Olympia Group, offered 3000 complete packages of school supplies to the residents of the municipalities of Marathon and Rafina who were affected by the fires in the summer of 2018.

The school packages covered the needs of students of all levels of education, from pre-school to high school and included branded, quality school items, such as backpacks with well-known children's heroes of the company GIOVAS S.A., caskets and stationery based on the school's specifications list.

The delivery of the packages from Public to the fire-affected Municipalities was completed on September 5, while a special event-celebration for the delivery was organized by the Municipality of Rafina on the same day in collaboration with Public at the Municipal Swimming Pool of Rafina. During the event, the children and their families watched a unique children's show, had the opportunity to do face painting and other creative activities, while at the end of the celebration they received their complete school packages offered by Public.

Impact on Society

The action of Public, a subsidiary of the Olympia group, had as its primary objective the support of vulnerable social groups (children) and the local communities of Marathon and Rafina that were affected by the fires of 2018. With Public's offer, the families on the one hand were provided with all the necessary (based on the specifications of their school list) for the new school year, on the one hand they had the opportunity to enjoy a unique children's celebration and have fun "leaving" behind them, at least temporarily, the memories of the disaster that hit their area, just before it hit ringing in the new year.



Initiative Location

The delivery from Public to the Municipalities took place on 5/9 at the Rafina Municipal Swimming Pool, while those families who were not able to attend received the complete package with their school supplies, offered by Public, from the school they were enrolled in.

The recording of the needs and the distribution of the packages was done in collaboration with the Municipality of Marathon, the Municipality of Rafina-Pikermio, the Rafina Port Organization and the Maritime Sports Club in Mati.

The delivery of the packages took place with the parallel voluntary participation of 50 employees from Olympia Group companies.
