Objective Action
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the first legally binding international text on human rights signed by the European Union and its member states and ratified by our country with Law 4074/2012, recognizes the importance of accessibility and calls on States parties to take appropriate measures to ensure that persons with disabilities have access, on an equal basis with others, to the built environment, means of transport, information and communications. The aim of the coordinated action, therefore, is the possibility of autonomous access to the sea (as a more specific manifestation of the right of equal access to the built environment), for persons with special needs and persons with mobility problems, permanently or temporarily, who reside in or visit the Municipality of Evrotas and the neighboring Municipalities of Monemvasia, Eastern Mani and Sparta, so that they can enjoy unhindered the coolness of the sea of the Blue Coast of Elos of the Municipality of Evrotas.
Target Audience
The project is aimed at people with special needs, people with mobility problems, people of advanced age, people with limb disabilities or neuromuscular dystrophies, paraplegics-quadriplegics, people with Parkinson's and people with temporary injuries and people with multiple sclerosis.
Duration
The special ramp has been installed in the year 2018 and 2019 during the summer months.
It is installed every year in the last months of spring or the first of summer and for reasons of protection of the structure, it is removed in winter.
Description
Laconia is a prefecture with many natural beauties and wonderful beaches along the entire length of its southern coastline and in recent years it has been a magnet for domestic and foreign tourism. The Municipality of Evrota, supporting the right of all our fellow citizens to access the sea throughout the summer, without discrimination and exclusion, so that everyone can enjoy a cool swim in the sea, places on the Blue Coast of Elos, a special ramp - corridor, on which it moves wheelchair for the disabled, which sinks into the sea, thus making bathing an easy task even for fellow citizens with mobility problems. Additionally, auxiliary facilities have been installed, such as removable changing rooms, portable toilets, corridors and ramps, areas for shade and protection of bathers, parking spaces for the disabled.

Impact on Society
The right of access of the disabled to the sea is and must be non-negotiable. Something that is not taken for granted. The results of the above action are not measurable or reflected in numbers. The results are visible on the faces of the people who use the ramp during the summer months, able to enjoy the coolness of the sea, relaxation and its beneficial effect on a physical and mental level.
