Objective Action

KPMG's "Cook for Good" initiative is an annual event (7 years) where our employees and volunteers join together for a noble cause. For seven consecutive years, we have strived to make a positive impact on the society we live and operate in by preparing meals for those in need. Our participants take personal bets to surpass the previous year's total number of meals, demonstrating their commitment to this cause. Our ultimate aim is to help reduce hunger and food waste, and we accomplish this by organizing a variety of actions in partnership with a pro bono chef who guides our volunteers in meal preparation.

The "Cook for Good" initiative is a testament to our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). We understand the importance of giving back to the community and recognize that addressing issues such as hunger and food waste is crucial to achieving a sustainable future. Through this initiative, we are not only making a positive impact on the community but also promoting team building and fostering a culture of volunteerism within our organization.

Our efforts do not stop at preparing meals; we also work to raise awareness about food waste and hunger in our communities. Our participants engage in discussions and share ideas on how to minimize food waste while providing nutritious meals to those in need. By doing so, we aim to promote sustainable consumption and production practices while addressing social issues.

In conclusion, KPMG's "Cook for Good" initiative is a CSR activity that goes beyond preparing meals for those in need. It promotes team building, volunteerism, and sustainable practices while addressing social issues such as hunger and food waste. Our participants take pride in making a difference in the community and demonstrate their commitment to creating a better future for all.

Target Audience

In addition to providing meals for those in need, the "Cook for Good" initiative also strives to raise awareness for the issue of zero hunger in the wider community. By partnering with local organizations and involving volunteers from various backgrounds, the initiative aims to promote the importance of reducing food waste and ensuring that everyone has access to nutritious meals. This year, the meals prepared by our dedicated volunteers were donated to the "Lighthouse of Hope," an organization dedicated to providing support and resources for individuals and families in need. By focusing on the structures closest to the meal preparation site, we can ensure that our efforts have a direct impact on those who need it the most. Through this initiative, we hope to inspire others to join us in our mission to end hunger and promote sustainable food practices.

Description

KPMG remains committed to aligning its Social Responsibility actions with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In line with this, the company took the initiative to celebrate the United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty and the World Food Day by embarking on the "Cook for Good" action. This is KPMG's minimum, but long-standing contribution in Greece towards the elimination of hunger and food waste.

The success of the "Cook for Good" initiative was due to the dedication of our volunteer employees who participated in the event. These volunteers went above and beyond themselves and their cooking skills, cooking as many meals as possible under the guidance of a professional chef who generously offered his services for free. The chef in question, Stavros Varthalitis, supported the initiative for the second consecutive year.

The volunteers showed their passion and commitment by packing the meals themselves to ensure that they were ready for delivery. In addition, the coordinating team of the initiative ensured that the event was held at the "Le Monde" Educational Group, which offered two of its workshops for the preparation of the meals. The coordinating team had already found an organization that offered its premises free of charge for the preparation of the meals and had coordinated with the NGO "Boroume" to find the nearest structure for the delivery of the meals. The chosen structure was the "Lighthouse of Hope," based in Athens, which has activities in several areas, aiming to strengthen the local communities of countries in need.

The "Cook for Good" initiative was a huge success, with 29 executive-volunteers dedicating their time and efforts to cook and pack 250 portions of food in just three hours, surpassing the previous year's record. The success of the initiative was measured by the number of portions prepared by the volunteers to cover one meal. The social dimension of the Sustainable Development Goals was positively impacted by the "Cook for Good" initiative.

KPMG is proud of its employees and the success of the "Cook for Good" initiative, and the company remains dedicated to aligning its actions with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, while contributing to the betterment of society.
