Prevention is one of the most important health care issues and is based on scientifically approved practices and technology. First degree health care, which entails prevention, was defined in 1978 through the ALMA-ATA declaration. The opinion and statement by profession D. Trichopoulos on the subject is really important, as stated in his book “Epidemiology 1982”: “The worst enemies of health are not micros, viruses and cancer. They are poverty, ignorance and the exploitation of the human being by another human being”.
“I Care for my Health” program corresponds to the need of informing, preventing and safeguarding health by offering preventive medical examinations to residents of local communities in Greece where there are high poverty and unpemployment rates, where there is limited access to health care services and there is constricted information on the subject. It is noteworthy that the Health care and Medical prevention program “I Care for my health” was designed and implemented in 2010, for the first time, with significant results. Indicatively, we can report that until today, the program has visited in total 230 schools in 21 Prefectures in Northern Greece and 5 remote Greek islands.

The program is being implemented since 2010.
Coca-Cola 3E, among our multi-faced activities in the area of Social Responsibility and specifically within the framework of our social contribution, confronts the issue of preventive medicine consistently and continuously. Having acknowledged the need for safeguarding the health of people, living in the county, implements similar health care programs since 2006, in collaboration with NGOs and public carriers, which aim to inform people in issues of health and First aid. The company is committed to invest resources, experience and time in improving the quality of life in local communities.
Thus and in collaboration with Hellenic Red Cross rolls out since 2010 the community program “I Care for my Health”. The program has completed 5 years of contribution and support to the residents of local communities in Greece, in issues of prevention and health promotion. The basic pillars of the program are: Preventive Medical Examinations, Health Care, First Aid and Accident Prevention Seminars, Prevention of children accidents. More specifically, the program aims to educate people in order to adopt a balanced lifestyle, train them on First Aid to be able to provide the needed help to people who are in need.
The main activation of the program is as follows:
A. Preventive School Hygiene: A scientific team, consisting of a pediatrician, a dentist, a nurse and volunteers from Hellenic Red Cross, licensed by the Ministry of Education and in collaboration with the local First Degree Education Departments, visit schools in remote areas, aiming to provide medical examinations and address kinds health issue holistically. In more details during the program we:
1. Update the health books on vaccinations.
2. Check kids’s development parameters (height, weight).
3. Check their blood pressure.
4. Check their eye-sight.
5. Check their cholesterol.
6. Check their oral hygiene levels.
Following the completion of the check-ups we provide full detailed report to the parents, in case we find something and distribute relevant education and information material to the students.
B. Student Seminars. The preventive health check-up is completed through training the students on First Aid, accident prevention, personal hygiene and balanced lifestyle. In every school we donate a fully equipped pharmacy for their needs and we also distribute to the students their own personal pharmacy which includes a tooth-paste, a brush and pins with messages that promote a healthy lifestyle.
C. Parents Seminars on Health Issues Nurses from Hellenic Red Cross educate parents and teachers on healthy role modelling, which promote physical, spiritual and emotional health for kids and adults. Following the seminar, relevant communication material is distributed with tips on First aid, accident prevention and advices on adopting a healthier lifestyle, adapted to contemporary way of living.
D. Prevent Health Check-ups for adults. The preventive checks are realized in a fully equipped health care mobile unit, offered by “ERRIKOS DYNAN” hospital and is supported by a local doctor, nurses and volunteers by the Hellenic Red Cross. The Check- up entails:
1. Medical examination.
2. Blood pressure.
3. Cariovascular check.
4. Diabetes.
5. Cholesterol.
6. Spirometry.
7. Guidance, Tips and advices.
Since the beginning of its implementation up until 2014, the program has visited 21 Prefectures of Greece and 5 islands of the Dodecanese, where it has manages to:
• Offer medical examinations to 15,400 inhabitants, through its mobile health unit and the Peripheral department of Hellenic Red Cross.
• Visit 230 schools, where it has implemented Fist Aid and Accident Prevention seminars to 11,601 students and medical examinations to 11.193 children, while 2,714 parents and educators participated in the seminars.
• Educate more than 292,000 local residents for the importance of preventive medical examinations through leaflets and communication material.

Our employees have been informed about the program. Moreover in the frame on internal communication, we have implemented First Aid Seminars for the internal audience as well as preventive medical examinations.
Through the program “I Care for my Health”, we give back to the community a significant return on the pillar of Health, offering preventive medical examinations and information on the importance of prevention, aiming to shape and adopt healthy behavioral models, diagnose illness at an early stage and educate children, parents and educators on First Aid, so that they will be able to handle an emergency incident.
